A.J. : He's a 15.1 hand, 4 year old Appendix type gelding. He was the paddock buddy to our mare at the farm in Napanee where we bought them. We first noticed him the previous week when we went to look at Calla, and he did his best to leave a lasting impression when we were there, by hamming it up and reaching for us when we were close to his stall. He was more expensive than the mare initially, but the owner dropped his price because we bought the two of them.

Calla : She's a 15 hand, 4 year old hunter type mare. We drove out to Napanee on August 14th, and had a look at her. She is a sweet heart, and we fell in love with her immediately. Deb took her for a few rides, between trying her out, and trying to find a saddle that fit, and she didn't fuss once. We were in the paddock for awhile, and Deb stayed on her for about an hour while we talked with the owner. She bent her head back a few times to say hello to Deb while she sat on her back and then she put her head against my chest and dozed off. I think she picked us. *UPDATE* Little did we realize, but she was roughly 4 months pregnant here. We were told it was just a "hay belly". March 20, 2005, she gave birth to healthy baby boy, "Chester". :)

Chester : This is Chester. He was born March 20, '05 at approx. 6:30am. A passerby noticed our mare in distress on the ice in the lower part of the field that they stay in, and came in to let us know. By the time we got up, dressed, and out there, Calla and A.J. were helplessly looking at the very new and wet baby, shivering and unable to get up on the ice. Paul ran down and scooped up the foal, and carried him up the hill, as Calla walked beside him, and uncle A.J. worryingly ran around them, stopping to check the baby periodically, the whole 150 yards to the barn. We had approximated the due date to be a bit later, but had made arrangements to use a stall in the barn for awhile when Calla birthed. Baby and mother are happy and healthy.

Hank : This is Hank. We brought him home with us from Napanee, when we bought Calla, our mare. He travels well! We stopped in Bellville to buy some food for all of us, (kitten food and A&W) and he wolfed down his, and then tried to eat ours. He likes hamburgers and fries. :) After eating, he quickly fell asleep in my lap, with his head hanging off the seat, and stayed that way the rest of the trip home. I had to prop him up so I could use the clutch without squashing him when we got off the highway, and he never even stirred.
